Definitive Guide To Sleep Disorders

Disrupted Circadian Rhythms

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), advanced and delayed sleep phase syndromes, and some cases of insomnia are caused by disruptions in circadian rhythms. Inadequate exposure to bright light and sunlight is a major contributor to upsetting our body clocks, but so is traveling across time zones and shift work. Poor diet, heavy use of stimulants, lack of exercise, and unmanaged stress can also upset our natural sleep patterns. An often-overlooked cause of circadian rhythm disruptions is extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs), which have been found to diminish the pineal gland’s ability to produce melatonin. Electrical power lines, home appliances, commercial airplanes, and computers generate EMFs.
