“If only I could sleep, I know I would be better,” said Sally, a school teacher in her 30s, who had a Candida Infection and chronic fatigue syndrome. She had been unable to work for the past year because of her severe tiredness. She often spent the day in bed, but barely slept at all. In addition, she suffered from bloating after eating, chronic constipation, and emotional swings. Sometimes, she would force herself to exercise and, the next day, she would be worse.
During the exam, Sally said that she had suffered from teen-age acne. In order to cure the acne, she underwent a year of antibiotic therapy. In addition, she had a series of upper respiratory infections in her early 20s, for which she was given more antibiotics. Heavy doses of antibiotics can destroy healthy bacteria in the intestines, resulting in digestive problems and also setting the ground for Candida to develop. The results of a stool test on Sally showed that had indeed occurred: Sally suffered from dysbiosis , malabsorption (the nutrients from her food were not being absorbed properly) and liver toxicity (the liver becomes sluggish and loses its efficiency in eliminating toxins).
Sally was placed on a yeast-free diet and given garlic and grapefruit seed extract to detoxify and rehabilitate her intestinal tract and liver. She also received various physical treatments, including acupuncture, craniosacral work , and applied kinesiology.
After one month on the program, Sally began to sleep through the night. As her energy and strength began returning, she started on a very minimal exercise program to tone her muscles. She also received hypnotherapy for attitudinal changes, relaxation exercises to do at home, and recipes for herbal baths to prepare for herself before bed. After three months on the program, Sally was able to return to her teaching job.
